* Salary: £28,810 – £31,327 (pro rata)
* Hours: 25–32 hours per week (hours to be agreed), Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week FTE)
* Contract: Permanent, ideally commencing in January 2026
About the MP
Patrick Spencer MP is seeking to appoint a Constituency Assistant to join his busy and dedicated small team.
Role Summary
Based in the Central Suffolk and North Ipswich constituency office, you will play a key frontline role in supporting Patrick’s work. You will manage emails, telephone calls, letters, mail‑merge tasks and diary coordination. Knowledge of the constituency area, including key government, community and support organisations, and a genuine interest in the issues affecting Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, will be beneficial. The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in administrative work and to contribute meaningfully to public service.
Your Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive administrative support to the office, including managing emails, telephone enquiries, letters, mail‑merge tasks, electronic filing systems and diary coordination.
* Oversee the coordination, tracking and follow‑up of enquiries, ensuring they are handled promptly, professionally and with exceptional customer service.
* Assist the team in organising public meetings and community engagement activities.
* Assist the MP in meetings with constituents and external organisations, capturing key discussion points and managing subsequent follow‑up actions.
* Support casework by responding to constituents via email, post, telephone and face‑to‑face interactions.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Westminster and Constituency offices, contributing to a positive and supportive team environment.
* Deliver exceptional administrative and secretarial support, maintaining efficient office operations and consistently providing excellent customer service.
* Ensure full compliance with data protection legislation and GDPR requirements in all activities.
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work within the constituency will be expected. Probationary period 6 months, with an interim review at 3 months.
What You Will Need
* Excellent attention to detail, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Highly organised, able to manage and prioritise competing demands and independently handle a large and varied workload.
* Ability to establish rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
* Demonstrate integrity and discretion, consistently upholding confidentiality and ethical standards.
* Proficient IT user across Microsoft Office applications, including high‑volume mail merge.
