Overview
This role is a 12-month secondment to support the Breakthrough & R&D Innovation teams in creating new products that are launched globally. The role is primarily a liquid development role, working in the R&D laboratories where the work happens. The role provides support to ensure projects are delivered to high standards in terms of consumer expectations and quality, and reports to more senior specialists or line managers.
Responsibilities
* Research & Development: Conduct assigned experimentation work under supervision, supporting L4 and L5 scientists/engineers to enable higher output on projects.
* Experimentation: Perform tests/experiments using established laboratory/pilot plant procedures and consistently follow best practices.
* Equipment Management: Assume responsibility for the operation of relevant scientific equipment and maintain personal work area for safety and cleanliness.
* Data Recording & Reporting: Maintain accurate, complete records within laboratory notebooks and other record retention procedures. Communicate research results clearly both verbally and in writing.
* H&S responsibilities: Proficient in general good laboratory practices and working understanding of COSHH; recommend solutions to get the job done.
* With guidance, diagnose problems and determine recommended next steps.
* Seek and utilize technical information from colleagues and external sources.
* Communication Skills: Clearly communicate research results both verbally and in writing. Maintain accurate records within laboratory notebooks.
* Independent Judgment: Manage workload proactively seeking advice when priorities are unclear. Formulate detailed experimental procedures/designs within specific project deliverables. Take direction from Project Lead to understand core activities. Be a team player providing hands-on help to technical team members. Demonstrate willingness to learn and adapt within a changing environment.
* Demonstrate talent in project disciplines such as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics. Understand and follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
* Laboratory Technician Skills: Independently conduct experiments after adequate training including setting up, operating, maintaining, and cleaning laboratory equipment. Record data accurately on a timely basis; report findings to Project Lead.
* Business Capabilities: Good communication skills; proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook calendar management. Attention to detail with solid record keeping; positive attitude; ability to work with diverse teams at pace.
* Qualifications: Ability to perform fundamental budget operations such as raise a purchase order, order materials and goods receipt. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or proven experience equivalent. Entry-level position suitable for candidates with an Engineering or Applied Science Degree or recognized technical equivalent.
