Overview

Do you have a passion to support people who present with behaviours that challenge, seeing the difference you can make to support them during their acute admission? If you are good at thinking on your feet, understanding risk, have the knowledge to utilise distraction and diversion techniques and the ability to create a positive and safe environment for patients who require additional support during their stay in hospital, the Enhanced Care Support Worker role may be for you. The Enhanced Care Team are recruiting 17 Enhanced Care Support Workers who will provide an enhanced level of care to patients with behaviours that challenge or for those at high risk of absconding.

You will support patient safety as planned and directed by the Enhanced Care Coordinator by providing enhanced care to patients assessed as requiring RED Enhanced Care due to a risk to themselves or others, and to those detained under the Mental Health Act. You will be responsible for delivering high standards of care and providing services in accordance with the Trust's values and behaviours to support the nursing team in the delivery of patient care which is safe and effective. This role is a fundamental part of the nursing team in providing care to patients/carers/relatives at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, including the safe delivery of a range of clinical competency skills.


Responsibilities

You will undertake a range of core clinical skills which include:

* Venepuncture
* Patient observations including Blood pressure, Oxygen saturations, heart rate, respirations, temperature, pain score, NEWS score
* Peripheral Cannula removal
* Swabbing to include MRSA, FLU, COVID
* Obtain samples including urine dip, from a catheter, MSU and faeces, sputum
* Blood glucose and ketone testing
* ECG
* Observe wounds and change simple dressings
* Bladder scan
* Skin assessment
* Catheter removal
* Female catheter insertion
* Pregnancy testing
