Technical Manager - (Full Time, Permanent) An excellent career opportunity has arisen for a professional and focussed individual to join our Management Team in the role of Technical Manager at Biopax Limited in Belfast. Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful applicant will be leading all technical and R&D functions of the business including driving excellence to our customers through standards and compliance, packaging technology and design department. Candidates must hold the following qualifications and experience: University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline or Printing / Packaging related qualification with extensive knowledge of the paper and board manufacturing processes. Significant proven experience (minimum 5 years) of managing a successful R&D/Technical function, within the FMCG/Food or Packaging Industry. Proven track record of developing good customer and supplier relationships, working collaboratively to achieve business growth Working knowledge of BRCGS 7 Packaging Materials Standard, HACCP, Policies/Codes of Practice of the major UK retailers and Quick Service Restaurant brand owners, Food Legislation and Food Hygiene practices. Although not essential, it would be advantageous for candidates to hold the following: Experience of managing New Product Development projects from concept to launch of products into UK and European markets. Product development and implementation of functional barrier coated and printed paper products and a track record of successful products launched into various markets. Working knowledge of the direct food contact testing process of packaging to meet UK and European legislation for direct food contact testing and interpretation of lab results to ensure legal compliance. Working knowledge of the Extended Producer Responsibility legislation (EPR), Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT), European Deforestation Regulations (EUDR) and compiling appropriate data from suppliers in order to meet the current / future Government legislation. Working knowledge of the patent process and writing patent application documents for patent applications. Development and installation management of packaging machinery and automation systems for efficient packaging production in the paper & board sector. Substrate selection for brand owners to be fit for purpose for food products being shipped and detailed knowledge of the recycling of the packaging to minimise the cost of ERP / PPT taxes and become part of the Circular Economy.
