Overview
We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Research Fellow in Rheumatology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology to be part of the BioRes consortium, a standard of care umbrella longitudinal cohort study in rheumatoid arthritis. You will work with colleagues in Glasgow, Newcastle and Birmingham. This post supports pioneering experimental medicine strategies using basket trial design and pathology-based outcome measures to provide early go/no-go decisions in proof of biology studies in immune mediated inflammatory diseases. The aim is to move the field away from the traditional “organ-based, speciality-focussed” approach to experimental medicine to a cell-based, pathway-focussed classification for inflammatory diseases.
Responsibilities
* Participate in proof of biology and/or interventional studies in Rheumatology, working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver the group’s strategic aims and the trial portfolio on time and to target.
* Identify and recruit patients to clinical trials, liaising with the Gastroenterology department and other NHS departments to ensure a seamless service.
* Contribute to the writing and submission of grant applications related to their research area and participate in Kennedy and NDORMS seminars and other departmental activities as required.
* Provide clinical care for trial participants, including monitoring and evaluating participants under the supervision of senior colleagues, within your scope of clinical competence.
* Receive full training to ensure you have the necessary clinical skills, including preparation/storage of biological samples in line with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
* You must hold an undergraduate degree with honours or distinction in Medicine and be eligible to undertake clinical practice in the UK (GMC registration or proven eligibility).
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact comfortably with patients, team members, administrative staff, and the broader research community.
* Evidence of continuing professional development with excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work flexibly and autonomously while managing multiple projects at various stages.
* Ability to follow departmental guidance on handling sensitive and personal information in compliance with current data protection legislation.
* Specialist Registrar Grade or Certificate of Completion of Training is desirable.
