Offer description

Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Responsible to: Chief Operating Officer

General:

Mary Hare educates 200 profoundly deaf children at its residential school in Berkshire. We pride ourselves on our pupils’ achievements at GCSE, A Levels, as well as BTech and Vocational Courses. We offer the opportunity to teach highly motivated children in small classes, where you can make a real difference at this national centre of excellence for deaf education. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy.

The Role:

This is an opportunity to join a vibrant, dynamic, and ambitious charity whose goal is to enable deaf children and young people to thrive and reach their full potential.

The organisation has a strong track record of raising substantial funds for major capital developments, including an arts centre, new residential accommodation, and most recently, £4 million for a new Primary School for deaf children. You will be responsible for a small team and will need to secure major donations from Trusts, Foundations, and individuals. The role is varied and encompasses most areas of fundraising, including raising unrestricted funds annually.

The Fundraising Manager will oversee the Trusts Fundraiser. The role works across two organisations: The Mary Hare Foundation and Mary Hare, which are separate registered charities. The Mary Hare Foundation handles fundraising, while Mary Hare focuses on service delivery.

The primary fundraising targets relate to capital projects outlined by the school. There are also revenue fundraising targets, including the bursary scheme. The role is very hands-on, involving both managing fundraising activities and implementing them, especially trust fundraising.

About you:

We seek someone with proven experience in securing funding from trusts and foundations, with a strong record of successful applications for significant grants (£200k+). You should be a confident and persuasive writer, able to communicate our impact clearly and compellingly, and capable of building strong, long-lasting relationships with funders.

You should be proactive and tenacious, skilled at identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities. Highly organized with keen attention to detail, you can manage multiple applications and deadlines effectively.

You will have experience organizing a wide range of events and understanding what makes a successful fundraising event. Experience in stewarding high-level donors and securing donations from individuals and companies is essential. Additionally, you will have:

* Excellent written skills to create accurate, powerful, and persuasive copy in various formats.
* The ability to match prospective funders' needs with the charity's needs.
* Excellent networking and interpersonal skills to relate to people at all levels, in person, on the phone, via video, or in writing.
* Strong organizational and project management skills to plan and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* An entrepreneurial approach to identify and follow new opportunities. Adaptable and flexible across activities.
* A self-starter attitude, motivated to pursue new opportunities, with solid experience in tracking income and reporting.
