We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Endoscopy Junior Senior/Nurse to help and support the staff and the unit. The PRUH has an established endoscopy unit with two procedure rooms and a third room within Radiology for all Endoscopy procedures under fluoroscopy. We perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures, including enteroscopy, video capsule endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, trans‑nasal endoscopy, bronchoscopy and endo‑bronchial ultrasound, and provide pre‑assessment services. The unit is highly productive, and a new six‑room elective endoscopy facility is planned for completion this year.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the development and delivery of the pre‑assessment service, including the Non‑GA pathway.
* Collaborate closely with Senior Sisters, Band 5 nurses, healthcare assistants, the wider endoscopy team, colorectal team, pathology, radiology and cancer services to maintain a high standard of patient care.
* Provide nursing input within the Endoscopy Service in accordance with local and national specifications, including cross‑site responsibilities.
* Lead the on‑call emergency GI bleed nursing rota and ensure seamless staffing coverage.
* Support the Band 6 Sister role by mentoring junior staff, conducting appraisals and fostering a culture of excellence.
* Assist in policy implementation, service development and quality‑assurance activities, including audits and research.
* Maintain accurate patient documentation in line with Trust policies and the NMC code of conduct.
* Advocate for patients, supporting them to navigate and make informed choices at all stages of care.
* Manage a team of nurses and healthcare assistants, ensuring effective teamwork, staff development, and training.
* Monitor patient data to meet national and local Trust requirements, and support the collection of data for audits and research.
* Participate in service development initiatives, including cost‑improvement programmes, duty roster planning and resource management.
* Represent the Endoscopy Service on Trust working groups, and support the Senior Sister in broader leadership activities.
* Maintain standards of cleanliness and equipment safety within the Endoscopy Unit and keep up to date with advanced endoscopy skills to train junior staff.
* Actively promote evidence‑based decision‑making, openness to challenge and continuous improvement of patient care standards.
* Respond to verbal and written complaints according to Trust policy, and manage any untoward incidents in line with procedures.
* Support the development of new ideas and innovations aimed at improving patient care and service provision.
* Ensure respectful, inclusive communication with patients, relatives and all multidisciplinary team members, supporting equality, diversity and rights.
This role is based at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) within the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK's largest teaching Trusts.
