Northumberland FA is looking for an Audit & Compliance Director to join our Board of Directors – playing a vital role in ensuring we maintain financial integrity, uphold strong governance, and promote a culture of transparency and ethical accountability. This is an exciting time to join us as we settle into our brand-new £4 million headquarters at St Peter’s Sports Hub and continue leading the evolution of grassroots football across Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Northumberland.
About the role
As Audit & Compliance Director, you will:
* Oversee the integrity of financial statements and audit processes.
* Monitor internal controls, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
* Ensure the organisation adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
* Promote transparency, accountability and ethical behaviour across the Association.
* Act as Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee and provide independent, strategic challenge to the Board and CEO.
This voluntary position requires attendance at six board meetings a year (usually the second Thursday of each month), held at St Peter’s Sports Hub.
We’re looking for
* Proven experience in finance, accounting, auditing, law or compliance.
* Strong financial acumen and understanding of risk management.
* Experience in board‑level governance and a sound grasp of corporate oversight.
* Integrity, independence and the ability to make objective, evidence‑based decisions.
* Professional certifications (e.g. CPA, CA, CIA, CFE, CCEP) are desirable but not essential.
