Are you ready to play a crucial role in shaping robust financial management and driving financial excellence at Revenue Scotland?

The Financial Accountant will play a key role in ensuring robust financial management and reporting across Revenue Scotland. You will be responsible for monitoring budgets, delivering statutory accounts, providing financial insight and challenge for decision-making, and ensuring compliance with public finance regulations and standards.

You will be a key member of a small and highly effective Finance function, within an organisation with the responsibility for the collection of over £900 million of tax revenue that has to be properly accounted for. This role offers the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of Finance.

Responsibilities


* Lead on the preparation and delivery of the organisation’s annual accounts (both for the Resource and the Devolved Taxes Accounts) in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards and Scottish Public Finance Manual.
* Provide high-quality financial advice and analysis to senior management and stakeholders to support strategic planning and operational decisions.
* Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with Revenue Scotland’s corporate objectives.
* Monitor and report financial performance and implement robust financial controls to ensure value for money and proper use of public funds.
* Oversee the development and implementation of financial systems and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
* Support daily duties including cash posting, repayments and direct debit processing.
* Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including internal auditors, Audit Scotland, tax teams, budget holders and other relevant bodies.
* Engage with internal stakeholders on financial aspects of the Scottish Electronic Tax System (SETS).
* Support the management of financial risk and contribute to wider corporate governance activities.
* Line manage and develop finance team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be fully CCAB qualified with up to date CPD and relevant post qualified experience in an accountancy environment. Consideration will be given to candidates who are part qualified/studying towards CCAB professional qualification.

Working Pattern

Our standard hours are 35 hours per week, we offer a range of flexible and hybrid working options. Our hybrid working principles require you to attend your assigned office, Victoria Quay, Edinburgh at least 2-3 days each month. Our hybrid approach supports a blend of home and workplace working, this should be agreed with the line manager to achieve the right balance between collaboration, in-person engagement and flexibility. You can also work from our Glasgow hub office if required.
