You will be part of a small team working to better enable the Fire Service to deliver its Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) by supporting those who are most at risk from dwelling fires:
* People with physical and/or mental health, disability, smokers, social renting, HMOs, high risk households, carers, those with alcohol/substance misuse
* You play a vital role in supporting those who are most at risk of injury and death should a fire occur in their home. You will undertake visits at the resident's home, these are called Safe & Well visits, around the County; engaging with our customers, providing fire safety guidance and advice and where necessary installing fire safety equipment. Your Safe & Well Visits will mainly involve you lone working, however, there may be occasions where you will be required to carry out a joint visit, working closely with other agencies for example social care, health and telecare services.
* You will be prioritising your workload in order to accurately conduct, record and report your Safe & Well Visits to meet the needs of customers/departments requirements and you will be using your initiative to independently respond and adapt to unanticipated problems or situations.
* You will also be required to attend some community events, in particular our Electric Blanket testing event which we carry out every year throughout the county to ensure the blankets our customers are using in their homes are fit for purpose and safe to use.
* With aspects of the job involving lone working, you will need a combination of effective planning and prioritising skills, with a proactive and resourceful attitude to apply specialist fire safety knowledge and provide broader health and wellbeing advice, including proactive signposting and referrals to other relevant agencies.
* To really make a difference to the communities we serve, you will also need excellent interpersonal skills, emotional resilience and compassion to provide timely, customer focused, specialist fire safety, health and wellbeing advice, in sometimes challenging and occasionally emotionally or environmentally intense situations.
* You will require some mental stamina during your Safe and Well Visits, responding to customer needs.
* You will have excellent IT skills and adaptability to use various databases providing accurate up to date records and reports on IT systems following the visits in accordance with strict timelines.
* You will also need some physical fitness as you will be installing specialist equipment and smoke alarms.
