Are you ready to lead meaningful change at the intersection of environmental sustainability and responsible development?
Norfolk Environmental Credits (NEC) is on a mission to deliver innovative, science-led solutions to the regions environmental challenges - while enabling sustainable growth that benefits both nature and people. We're helping Norfolk respond to urgent pressures on biodiversity, water quality, and climate through the delivery of trusted environmental mitigation schemes.
Were now seeking a confident, strategic, and relationship-driven Environmental Mitigation Manager to join our small but ambitious team. This is a pivotal leadership role offering the chance to influence both policy and practice, and to shape how Norfolk balances development with ecological responsibility for years to come.
About The Role
As our Environmental Mitigation Manager, youll lead the operational coordination, oversight, and continuous improvement of NECs mitigation schemes. This includes biodiversity net gain and nutrient neutrality - areas critical to unlocking sustainable housing and infrastructure in the region.
Youll work at the interface of policy, science, and market delivery - managing the supply and demand of environmental credits, ensuring ecological and legal robustness, and building strong partnerships across sectors. This role requires both strategic thinking and operational precision, as well as a strong grasp of environmental and planning frameworks.
In this role, youll:
* Oversee the supply and demand of environmental mitigation to support development across Norfolk
* Build and maintain strong partnerships with developers, landowners, mitigation providers, local authorities, and Natural England
* Ensure the scientific, legal, and policy integrity of all mitigation schemes, including site assessments, contracts, and compliance
* Lead the monitoring, reporting, and reconciliation of environmental credits to ensure transparency and accountability
* Provide insight and analysis to inform NECs future business planning and strategic growth
* Support innovation in mitigation delivery, from nature-based solutions to cross-boundary schemes and net gain markets
About You
Were looking for someone who combines technical credibility with commercial and stakeholder awareness. Youll need to be confident working across a complex landscape of regulation, ecology, and land management, and skilled in bringing diverse partners together to deliver shared goals.
Youll thrive in this role if you are:
* Experienced in environmental or ecological project management, ideally in planning, nature recovery, or mitigation delivery
* Knowledgeable about UK environmental policy, especially biodiversity net gain and nutrient neutrality
* A confident relationship-builder, able to work with developers, local government, land managers, and statutory agencies
* Commercially aware, with a good understanding of supply/demand models and legal frameworks around environmental credits
* Strategic, analytical, and committed to delivering high-quality environmental outcomes
Why Join Us?
This is a unique opportunity to shape and scale one of the UKs most forward-thinking local environmental credit schemes. Youll be working on real, measurable solutions to biodiversity loss and climate change - supporting Norfolks local authorities, communities, and developers to build a greener, more sustainable future.
At NEC, we offer a collaborative, mission-led environment where your expertise and initiative will have a genuine impact. Youll work closely with leaders in planning, ecology, and innovation - and be part of shaping something new for the benefit of people and nature.
Be part of a smarter, greener Norfolk.
Apply now and bring your strategic leadership to a team committed to protecting and enhancing our natural environment.
