Plastic Surgery Clinical Nurse Specialist
Location: Townlands Memorial Hospital, Henley-on-Thames, with regular clinics at West Berkshire Community Hospital, Thatcham, and Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. The role will support the delivery of our Minor Operations service at Townlands Memorial Hospital and coordinate patient pathways across sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Hold and manage own defined caseload of plastic surgery patients.
* Provide a comprehensive wound management service, including assessment, planning, and coordination of care for patients undergoing plastic surgery.
* Support and participate in nurse‑led clinics and minor operations lists across Royal Berkshire Hospital, West Berkshire Community Hospital, and Townlands Memorial Hospital.
* Prescribe and review medications where qualified or under Patient Group Directions to support safe and effective care.
* Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams, and allied health professionals to deliver safe, effective, and patient‑centred care.
* Lead clinical audit, using outcome data and patient feedback to inform service improvements and contribute to the Trust’s clinical governance agenda.
* Contribute to formal and informal teaching programmes relating to plastic surgery, wound management, and minor operations.
* Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control; ensure compliance with confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding policies.
* Take responsibility for own continuing professional development and act on clinical incidents within area of responsibility.
* Promote evidence‑based practice and disseminate research findings to enhance standards of care.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse.
* Qualification or study in a specialist area, when available.
Desirable Criteria
* Participating or working towards master’s level study in a relevant specialty.
* Non‑medical Prescribing Module.
* Advanced History Taking Module, post‑registration experience, including surgical or plastic specialties.
* Evidence of specialist knowledge and skills in plastic surgery or related areas.
* Minimum 2 years post‑qualification experience.
* Experience of successful change management.
* Experience of care of patients undergoing plastic surgery procedures.
* Experience in wound care management.
