Overview
Regulatory Officer 1 - Combined Packaging Regime - South West - 31805. This role is based in the Combined Packaging Regime team within Waste Markets & Shipments (WM&S) in Environmental Markets and Enforcement. We are a national team with officers across England to ensure a consistent regulatory approach. We enforce government regulations to ensure waste is disposed of correctly – “right waste, right place”.
What you will do
* Plan, monitor and deliver compliance and enforcement activity within your area of waste regulation to drive a circular economy.
* Develop relationships with customers and stakeholders; answer technical queries; interpret and diagnose problems and develop solutions.
* Collate, analyse and utilise complex data to support evidence-based decisions on regulation compliance.
* Handle confidential and sensitive information in line with data protection guidelines.
* Contribute to development and improvement of processes, procedures, and operational instructions.
* Undertake audit and enforcement work in the field and/or desk-based.
* Work with businesses to bring them into compliance and investigate suspected non-compliance, including conducting interviews under caution and compiling casefiles for legal teams.
Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. You must be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support, which may attract additional payment and require training and alternative working arrangements.
Team and environment
WM&S is supportive and inclusive; we aim to improve recycling quality and ensure waste entering and leaving the country is handled for recycling and recovery. Work is field and desk based within a geographical area, with hybrid office/home arrangements and regular travel within the South West base.
Experience/Skills Required
* Ability to handle difficult or confrontational conversations.
* Based in the South West packaging producer team with an expectation to travel.
* Excellent influencing skills and ability to develop good relations in complex environments.
* Experience producing accurate reports; data collation, analysis and interpretation using Microsoft Office.
* Ability to manage multiple demands on time to achieve outcomes and deliver against plans.
* Knowledge of compliance and enforcement legislation is desirable but not essential; full training will be given.
* Must have a valid full UK driving licence.

Interviews are expected to take place in person from mid-October. Hybrid working including office and home working. Travel within the South West base and training/meetings travel is expected.
