Job Title: ILS Technical Author – UK MOD Programme Location: UK-based (hybrid working with occasional travel to client site in Corsham.
Security Clearance: Candidates must hold, UK SC (Security Check) Clearance or higher.
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) Technical Author to support the delivery of a high-profile secure programme. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation in support of defence systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with MOD standards and ILS principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Produce, update, and manage technical documentation, including User Manuals, Equipment Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPCs), and Maintenance Instructions in line with Defence Standards
Collaborate with engineering, logistics, and project management teams to gather technical data required for documentation.
Develop content for Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs).
Support the development of Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) outputs and incorporate them into deliverables.
Participate in ILS reviews, technical publications planning meetings, and assurance activities.
Ensure all publications meet UK MOD JSP standards.
Maintain Configuration Management (CM) of all technical publications in accordance with programme governance.
Provide input into training materials and technical briefs where required.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Proven experience as a Technical Author in a defence or aerospace environment, ideally on UK MOD programmes.
Understanding of ILS principles, including LSA, LCC (Life Cycle Costing), R&M (Reliability & Maintainability).
Proficiency in document control and configuration management systems (e.g., Windchill, DOORS, Teamcenter).
Strong written communication and editorial skills, with a sharp attention to detail.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical data.
Desirable:
Prior experience working directly with or for the UK MOD.
Familiarity with UAS, land systems, naval platforms, or defence electronics.
Knowledge of Defence Logistic Framework (DLF) and MOD’s Logistics Information Systems (LIS).
