About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Machine Customisation Engineer to be based at the Komatsu UK site in Newcastle, employed by McHale Komatsu.
You’ll play a key role in preparing new Komatsu excavators for customer delivery—carrying out customisation work, installing specialist systems, and ensuring machines meet exact specifications and quality standards. This is a hands‑on, technical role within a fast‑paced workshop environment, working closely with internal teams and stakeholders.

Reporting to: Workshop Chargehand / Service Supervisor
Key Responsibilities
* Complete pre‑delivery inspections (PDI)
* Customise machines in line with customer requirements
* Carry out paint touch‑ups to manufacturer standards
* Diagnose faults and carry out repairs or expedite where needed
* Install and calibrate 3DMG systems and other equipment
* Fit and configure systems such as X‑Watch, Safety Shield and Tilt Rotators
* Complete Field Campaign work where required
* Set machine attachment flows and pressures
* Accurately report defects and completed work

* Efficient fault resolution and minimal rework
* Compliance with all Health & Safety standards
* Accurate and timely completion of job reports
* Effective collaboration with workshop and support teams
Person Specification
Essential
* Strong commitment to Health & Safety
* Mechanical experience, including installations and electrics
* Experience with heavy construction plant machinery and hydraulic excavators
* Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
* Ability to work efficiently to deadlines
* Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft D365 or similar systems)
* Strong team player with good communication skills
* Flexible, proactive and accountable approach
Desirable
* Counterbalance Forklift Truck Licence
* Experience with an OEM or construction equipment dealer
* Experience installing or working with systems such as X‑Watch, Safety Shield, Machine Control or Tilt Rotators
* SPA or CSCS certification
