Mechanical Technicians Felling, Gateshead 6 - 8 months £22.76 per hour 38 Hours per week Days: 07.30 - 16.00 Mon to Thursday |07.30 - 1400 Friday Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for completion of planned and reactive maintenance of the equipment within the allocated areas ensuring it is carried out in a safe, timely and efficient manner, minimizing plant down-time and improving machine availability. Risk based Inspection, Test & Maintenance of Mechanical Assets. Complete maintenance activities in your allocated area as directed by maintenance supervisor. Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance work, statutory inspections, breakdown/reactive work within a hazardous area environment. Attend and resolve equipment breakdowns in a timely manner as directed by maintenance supervisor and / or the production shift supervisor. Ensure all maintenance work is precisely detailed on the maintenance system for full equipment history. Support the maintenance supervisor to ensure annual PPM schedule to be above 95% completion. Health, Safety and Environment Ensure you follow all corporate and regulatory policies, procedures and regulations for engineering and maintenance activities in your allocated areas. Participate in the completion of Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis. Work in a safe manner and as per any agreed Risk Assessments, Job Safety Analysis, Procedures and Permits. Ensure that all processes within the work place are carried out safely; with due regard to the environment and in compliance with company procedures and guidelines. Ensure that accidents, incidents and near misses are reported promptly. Work to a high standard of housekeeping. Ensure all waste is handled and disposed of according to site procedures. Participate in the sites Behavioural Based Safety observation system within the engineering team Rota. Attend process safety reviews as required (HSE reviews, Hazops etc.) and contribute to the discussions. Identify and report potential hazards and address proactively. Ensure all safety related Engineering Work Requests (EWR) are completed in a timely manner Essential Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent (NVQ level 3) HNC in Mechanical Engineering (preferred but not essential Desirable 5 years in similar industry. Previous experience working on a COMAH site would be desirable. Strong diagnosis / fault finding skills. Knowledge of repairing and maintaining pumps, valves, gearboxes, chain and belt drives, conveying systems, palletisers and filling lines etc. Strong hand fitting skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to read, interpret and understand technical documents and drawings. Working with permit to work systems. Working in confined spaces (desirable but training can be given). Flexibility to work shifts and weekends when required. Intermediate computer literacy skills. Strong health & safety culture.
