Head of Accounts Payable | 5 days on site | Birmingham city centre | Full-time 36.5 hour week £37,000- £39,000 Your new company Head of Accounts Payable Full Time | Permanent | 36.5 hours per week Salary: £37,500 – £39,000 per annum Location: Birmingham city centre (free onsite parking) Working pattern: On-site, 5 days per week A large, well‑established education provider in Birmingham is seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Accounts Payable to lead its Accounts Payable and Purchasing operations. This is a key role within the Finance Operations team, offering the opportunity to shape processes, implement new systems, and contribute to the financial management of a large, multi‑site organisation. Your new role As Head of Accounts Payable, you will be responsible for the effective operation of Accounts Payable and Purchasing processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial activity. You will support treasury management functions and provide deputy leadership for Finance Operations, contributing to the delivery of high‑quality financial services across the organisation. Lead, manage, and develop Accounts Payable staff Oversee day‑to‑day Accounts Payable operations Manage supplier payments and ensure timely processing Ensure month‑end procedures are completed to required deadlines Oversee the stationery procurement system Monitor and manage assigned supplier accounts Reconcile overseas expenditure Produce purchasing and expenditure reports for statutory and management reporting Deliver variation and retrospective order reporting Support the implementation of new AP and purchasing systems and staff training Assist with preparation for internal and external audits Monitor petty cash expenditure Deputise for banking system management and wider Finance Operations team Promote high standards, continuous improvement, and staff development Support absence management processes with People Services Ensure compliance with financial regulations and procedures Undertake additional duties relevant to the grade What you'll need to succeed AAT Level 4, NVQ Level 4 in finance/financial management, or equivalent Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable and Purchasing Understanding of treasury management Experience of managing and developing a team Strong administrative and organisational skills Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office finance systems) What you'll get in return 42 days annual leave including bank holidays Excellent pension scheme with a 22.8% employer contribution On‑site working, Monday to Friday, within a collaborative finance team Opportunities to influence system development and process improvement A supportive environment where professional growth is encouraged What you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
