Overview
Job objectives and responsibilities: You will have the ability to interpret and make judgement across a wide range of issues, and understand the complexity of pre-planned maintenance, reactive maintenance, unplanned events/emergencies working in a controlled manner. Diagnose and repair faults in engineering and/or electrical and/or plumbing installations, plant, and equipment to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. Experience of working in an acute or non-acute hospital setting would be advantageous but not essential. You will be Mitie's first line representative and on occasion be Mitie's sole representative Trust wide. You will efficiently and effectively carry out planned, breakdown and emergency maintenance of a complete range of mechanical/electrical/building services within the estate. Undertake installation type work as part of new or refurbishment projects or plant replacement programmes.

Main duties
* The maintenance and repair of the complete range of mechanical and electrical engineering services associated with the Health Care estate, including engineering services, portable equipment, fixed plant, fire alarms, control panels, valves, calorifiers, water storage vessels, pipework and fittings, HVAC, pumps, motors, AHUs and building management systems.
* Undertake correctly and to a high standard the work associated with PPM (Pre Planned Maintenance) and Reactive Maintenance tasks.
* Undertake correctly and to a high standard the work associated with an inspection and testing programme for installed plant, fixed and mobile/portable equipment.
* Follow engineering and building drawings and specifications, providing satisfactory output linked with high standards of workmanship for complex systems; fully understand the relationship between mechanical and electrical systems.
* Determine what spares, components or supplies are needed to satisfactorily undertake and complete the work related to repair, routine servicing and new installations.
* Complete all record sheets and paperwork associated with routine duties accurately and in good time, or through the use of hand held devices.
* Assist in providing training to others engaged on mechanical work.
* Carry out work in a flexible manner (i.e., undertaking a range of work not of the core trade or skill).
* Undertake work on equipment or services or both where a higher level of skill is required above craft grade (usually special training for this will be necessary).
* To undertake the responsibilities of the Shift Team Manager in their absence in relation to supervision of day operational staff across all trades, in the absence of Engineering or Building Supervisor.
* Actively monitor the CAFM system to ensure all tasks are assigned within appropriate timescales and identify and rectify potential issues before failures occur.
* Perform complex and/or non-routine working activities.
* Liaise with specialist and non-technical personnel at all levels in the delivery of the service.
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with legislation and guidance.
* Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade of this position.
* Be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking into account safety measures to prevent danger, injury and damage to equipment.
* Work flexibly to meet the needs of the department and observe statutory requirements, including health and safety, electricity at work regulations, asbestos, legionella and COSHH regulations.
Person Specification
Working hours: 12 hour shifts over a 4 day pattern (4 x Days, 4 x Off, 4 x Nights, 4 x Off). Hold a full UK driving licence. Evidence of working within acute health care premises would be advantageous but not essential. The post holder will have the ability to communicate and coordinate tasks effectively. As this is a key front-line post, the post holder represents the Department directly to the Client group and must have a high standard of customer care skills, a pleasant manner, good communication skills, numeracy and keyboard skills.
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or equivariant IOSH Working Safely; Completion of a structured training programme in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering for a minimum of 3 years.
* This multi-skilled role will, after sufficient training, be inclusive of a range of works not of the core trade or skill.
* Self-motivated with a high level of focus, drive and energy; maintains high standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight timescales; motivated to seek personal learning and career development.
* Willingness to undertake further training in line with requirements of Mitie FM.
