We are delighted to share this exciting secondment opportunity for a Portfolio Programme Manager – Governance and Assurance within Acute Services. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with highly developed interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, to join our team for a period of 12 months.
The planned start date for this post is Mid-November 2025 and support for secondment should be sought from current line manager in advance of application.
Hours and Shift Pattern:
37 hours per week (standard hours 9-5, Monday - Friday with 1/2 hours unpaid lunch break and one shorter (7 hour) day; however hours will be agreed with successful candidate on appointment.
This post is offered on a fixed term/secondment basis until November 2026.
What you will do:
Based at Ailsa Hospital, you will work closely with the Director of Acute Services and wider Executive and Senior Management Teams in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
You will develop and manage the Director of Acute Services programme portfolio and provide dedicated professional programme management expertise to facilitate and oversee the delivery of required outcomes. You will work closely with and on behalf of the Director of Acute Services, leading on a number of high-profile initiatives, often consecutively and including day-to-day issues as they arise, which can include implementing policy or significant service change, depending on the demands of the portfolio at any given time.
You will champion and lead good governance and risk management arrangements for the directorate, in line with statutory requirements, analysing and interpreting local and national requirements for implementation.
As an experienced line manager, the postholder will lead and develop the Director of Acute Services Office Team, ensuring robust systems and governance processes are in place to support delivery of key objectives.
As the lead for Governance and Assurance for the Director of Acute Services, the postholder has a role in providing professional leadership and mentoring to the Acute Business Managers to ensure effective systems of governance and business management processes across the directorate.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
With a Master’s Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience, you will have practical and theoretical understanding of programme management tools and techniques. You will have recent experience of working in the NHS, other public sector organisations within a relevant role. You will have significant experience of working directly with Directors and Senior Managers and an awareness of the political sensitivity of information together with the ability, and mental agility, to work through issues and think at both a strategic and operational level.
