Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse supports Maine Medical Center's mission, vision, and values by exhibiting behaviors such as excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family-centered care, commitment to the community, and accountability. In accordance with national standards of nursing practice and the policies of Maine Medical Center and the Maine State Board of Nursing, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of nursing care. Care delivery and coordination begin with the initial contact with the healthcare system and may continue across the continuum, including inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.
This Per Diem Dialysis role requires a candidate without prior Dialysis experience to complete a minimum of 24 hours of orientation per week before transitioning to per diem hours.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
1. Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year of hire and complete it within 5 years. Evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year.
2. License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Maine.
3. Experience: Meets all requirements of Clinical Nurse I. Typically achieved within 12 months of employment. Critical care experience preferred. Dialysis experience strongly preferred.
4. Demonstrates caring nursing practice and promotes a healing environment for patients and families.
5. Possesses the knowledge and technical skills to care for most patient populations on the unit.
6. Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
7. Ability to identify potential crises involving patients or families and initiate appropriate actions.
8. In accordance with the Clinical Nursing Advancement Program, a Clinical Nurse II may choose to remain at Level II instead of seeking advancement to Level III.
