Role Overview
The University is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as Director of Development & Alumni Relations, leading fundraising and alumni engagement across the institution. The Director will act as the University’s chief fundraiser, shaping and delivering an ambitious strategy and cultivating high‑value donor relationships in the UK and internationally. The Director will also play a key role in building strong global alumni relationships that drive advocacy, volunteering and lifelong support. The successful candidate will lead a talented, expanding team and work closely with senior leaders including the Vice‑Chancellor, supporting them in securing major and principal philanthropic gifts.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the university’s public fundraising campaign, guiding strategy and execution to achieve fundraising targets.
* Build and nurture high‑value donor relationships, securing major philanthropic gifts.
* Develop and maintain alumni engagement strategies, promoting advocacy, volunteerism and lifelong support.
* Lead and manage a growing development and alumni relations team.
* Collaborate with senior leadership to align fundraising and alumni initiatives with the university’s strategic priorities.
* Oversee campaign management, reporting, compliance and stewardship.
* Represent the university at external engagements, funder events and alumni gatherings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Broad experience of strategic fundraising at a senior level with a proven track record in securing major gifts.
* Experience within a large, complex organization, ideally university or higher education.
* Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills.
* Excellent relationship building, persuasive and networking abilities.
* High integrity, team‑player attitude and passion for the university’s vision and mission.
* Ability to work flexible hours, travel within the UK and overseas, including evenings and weekends.
Role Conditions
This is a permanent and full‑time post based in Liverpool, UK. Travel within the UK and overseas will be required. Some out of hours, evening and weekend work will be required.
