The project scope includes planning, design, integration and delivery of major airfield infrastructure, buildings, systems and associated periphery infrastructure.
Job Summary
* The ES&H Manager will play a pivotal role in promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring that all activities are planned and executed safely within a live operational environment.
* Performs duties on large, relatively complex projects.
* Works within a PMC/Delivery Partner role.
* The ES&H Manager will develop new approaches to technical problems, provide technical direction for specific tasks as ES&H lead, and make assignments to subordinate ES&H personnel.
* Plans and coordinates work requiring independent judgement and extensive supervisory experience in multiple industries in the application of ES&H plans, policies, procedures, methods and systems, and formulates mitigation measures to reduce accidents and potential adverse environmental impacts on projects.
* Typically possesses a technical degree in the sciences or engineering from an accredited university or college and broad, progressive work experience in one or more of the ES&H areas.
* Experience in the aviation sector is critical to the role.
Major Responsibilities
* Develop, integrate and implement all aspects of the ES&H Management System, supporting the delivery of project‑related processes, plans, procedures, systems, methods and policies critical to the success of ES&H.
* Ensure that complex requirements are properly interpreted by evaluating and applying appropriate ES&H principles and formulating scopes of work, plans, and methodologies suitable for achieving and maintaining compliance with ES&H requirements.
* Provide technical assistance and supervisory direction to other environmental, safety and/or health project personnel, managing resources and sharing best‑in‑class ES&H initiatives.
* Provide technical support to client‑directed feasibility studies, site assessment studies, and project risk assessments, and inform client and supply‑chain teams of ES&H requirements.
* Stop work in dangerous situations or conditions having imminent adverse ES&H impact, stipulating acceptable work practices that are to be implemented before work can resume.
* Supervise and conduct project accident investigations; document contributing factors and prepare required reports.
* Coordinate inspection tours of regulatory compliance officers auditing the project/facility for compliance with government ES&H requirements.
* Accompany the compliance officer(s) during the audit; ensure all inspection reports are prepared and retained for legal defense if litigation results.
* May be required to obtain certification of the client’s programmes to benchmark standards (e.g., OHSAS 18001 or ISO 14001 or equivalents).
Education and Experience Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
* Experience managing ES&H delivery on complex infrastructure projects, including creating procedures and processes based on the principles of OHSAS 45001 and ISO 14001.
* Strong understanding of ES&H regulations, including construction environmental issues, industry standards for compliance and best management practices for ES&H.
* Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
* Demonstrated ability to create safe project environments.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Previous Bechtel experience.
* Experience in major UK airport or transport infrastructure projects, particularly within live operational environments.
* Knowledge of airport operations, governance processes, and stakeholder landscape.
* Experience in implementing ES&H training programs.
