Role Purpose
QC Inspectors are responsible for providing independent Quality Control and weld inspection services across a range of nuclear mechanical and electrical disciplines. Services are delivered at vendors’, potential vendors’, or other participating entities’ premises and locations within the defined geographical areas.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with both internal and external customers.
Deliver independent inspection and quality control services at operating sites and vendor premises relating to new equipment in manufacture, fabrication, and construction.
Inspect equipment ranging from Class 1 nuclear pressure equipment to items manufactured and installed to conventional codes, standards, and regulations.
Review fabrication and manufacturing documentation within delegated authority levels, including:
Quality Plans
Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
Fabrication and manufacturing procedures
Welding procedures
NDE procedures
Compilation and review of Life Time Quality Records (LTQRs)
Knowledge and Skills
Good working knowledge of UK inspection requirements within the nuclear industry, or transferable experience from another high-hazard industry.
Experience and understanding, or the ability to learn, nuclear and conventional codes and standards relating to pressure equipment and pressure systems, including:
EN 13445
EN 13480
PD 5500
ASME Section VIII
Associated materials, welding, and NDE standards
Demonstrated proactive and self-motivated approach to both technical and non-technical work.
Experience managing a wide range of stakeholders, with a proven ability to influence and negotiate effectively, particularly in technical inspection discussions.
Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Good working knowledge of customer quality requirements.
Good working knowledge and application of ISO 9001.
Good understanding of manufacturing techniques and processes.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience inspecting welded fabrications and manufactured equipment for nuclear and conventional power generation applications.
Sound understanding of, and where necessary qualifications in, materials, welding, and NDE techniques.
Qualifications Required
CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2 or equivalent
HNC / HND in an Engineering Discipline (preferred)
At least one PCN Level II certification in a related NDT method (MPI, DPI, Radiographic Interpretation, or UT)
CSCS Card or equivalent Safety Passport
