Public Health Officer - Mental Wellbeing Team

Permanent

Grade 4 - £34,434 - £41,771

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

Public Mental Health seeks to address the societal factors that influence people's mental health and wellbeing, by taking a broad, holistic approach to understanding, treating, and preventing mental and behavioural health disorders in populations. To take forward this agenda, Birmingham City Council has recently developed the Creating a Mentally Healthy City Strategy, which promotes prevention-focused ways to better mental health and wellbeing and prevent death by suicide in the city.

We are seeking a Public Health Officer to drive forward our mental health and wellbeing priorities, which aim to better lives through the lens of People, Families, Communities and Places. The postholder will support the team with initiatives such as our Communities' 5 Ways to Wellbeing Grant, delivery of Priority Action Groups, and support the maintenance and development of mental health and wellbeing action plans. They will also enhance the team's data collection, analysis, and collation of best practice interventions from other local areas.

The successful candidate should:

* Have a degree in Public Health, or similar, or extensive experience (3+ years)
* Have sufficient experience working in a Public Health setting, or similar
* Have a strong understanding of the principles of Public Health
* Have experience developing and piloting initiatives to promote better health and wellbeing
* Have experience in contract or grant management, including supporting partners and organisations to collect good-quality data
* Understand the mental health and care system, within clinical and non-clinical settings
* Be passionate about improving the lives of citizens, particularly those who experience disadvantage and larger mental health and wellbeing needs
* Be well-versed in mental health and wellbeing outcomes, including the analysis of outcomes through websites such as Fingertips.
