Overview
NHSGGC is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical professions. The Role
You will provide a service to Renfrewshire Mental Health Inpatient Wards, currently based across three sites: Dykebar Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital & Leverndale Hospital. Your base will initially be in one site, with possible rotation to others. Applicants must be able to work in any of the three sites. You will provide care to patients with a wide range of mental health conditions, including care for adults and older adults as part of a multidisciplinary team. It is essential you are an NMC registered nurse. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland checks. The posts offered are full time (36 hours per week), with part-time hours considered. The shift pattern is rotational, currently long days from 07:00 to 19:30 and night duty from 19:00 to 07:30.
Location, Contract and Working Pattern
* Location: Dykebar Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital & Leverndale Hospital. Base may rotate to another site in due course.
* Contract: Permanent
* Hours: Full-time (36 hours per week)
* Shift pattern: Long days 07:00–19:30, night shifts 19:00–07:30; 3 shifts per week with 1 week of 4 shifts within an 8-week period. This will be reviewed in 2025 for potential further changes in 2026.
Key Responsibilities
* Function as Named Nurse within a multidisciplinary team for a defined patient group
* Lead the nursing process: assess care needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care
* Carry out risk assessment and contribute to risk management planning in line with NHSGGC policies
* Provide relevant nursing care tailored to individual patient needs
* Identify and respond to health promotion needs to improve mental well-being and physical health
* Address vulnerabilities across gender health, domestic abuse, child protection and/or self-harm where applicable
* Work within competency-based parameters to undertake evidence-based psychological therapies/approaches where required
* Collaborate with patients and carers to formulate and deliver person-centred care, promoting well-being and relapse prevention
* Ensure professional practice adheres to the NMC Code and relevant legislation
* Support the Senior Charge Nurse in maintaining robust clinical governance, including communication, policy compliance, audits, evidence-based practice, and safety
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Registered Mental Health Nurse (NMC Level 1)
* Education to degree level or equivalent experience
* Knowledge of mental health nursing care including physical healthcare
* Active and ongoing CPD; clinical supervision/reflective practice
* Understanding of mental health/illness, wellness and recovery
* Knowledge of rights, values-based practice and relevant legislation
* Experience using digital technology and information systems
Desirable
* Completion of evidence-based psychological therapies/approaches
* Mentor preparation programme / registered mentor
* Post Registration Career Development Framework evidence (Level 5 pillars)
* Experience in an inpatient environment
