The North Wales GP OOHs Service are looking to recruit Urgent Care Practitioners within the Service. We are looking for individuals who are working towards Masters in Advanced Practice and have completed the Independent prescribing and Clinical examination or are close to achieving the modules.

Our aim is to deliver a high standard of care to the people of North Wales.

The hours are flexible and attract enhanced rates of pay on all hours worked during the out of hours period.

The service can offer support for Urgent Care Practitioners to increase knowledge of urgent care and leadership through mentorship and clinical supervision.

There will be allocated time for continued professional development within the role and there may be the opportunity for completion of full Masters.


Main duties of the job

The role will provide same day care to patients presenting with new onset symptoms and/or acute exacerbations of diagnosed long-term conditions.

To work autonomously in a holistic manner utilising your skills, experience and knowledge to provide comprehensive care by assessment to treatment and referral to other Health Care Professionals when required.

Participate in mentoring and training colleagues to enable them to develop skills and to help improve the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification


Education and Qualifications

* Registered Paramedic/Registered Nurse
* Successful completion of Clinical examination course at Masters level
* Successful completion of nonmedical prescribing course or working towards at Masters level
* Degree in professional practice or equivalent level of development in relevant clinical area
* ILS
* Has completed all components of relevant MSc
* Teaching, assessing and mentoring qualification


Experience

* Sufficient post registration experience
* Experience of delivering patient care in an urgent care, primary care or community setting
* Experience of multi-disciplinary working
* Significant clinical practice and experience working in an autonomous/extended role
* Experience of managing others


Skills and Competencies

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including emotional intelligence to deal effectively with complex and sensitive patient information, distressed or aggressive patients, or those with an impaired level of understanding
* Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team and other services
* Able to use various forms of media and IT systems such as video calling and Skype
* Ability to perform holistic assessment, critically analyse patient information or situations and make clinical judgements and decisions as to the best course of action
* Ability to act independently within occupational guidelines
* Skilled in clinical history taking
* Comprehensive physical assessment of all body systems across the life span
* Clinical skills: Initial/re-insertion of male and female urethral catheters and re-insertion of suprapubic catheters; care of acute/chronic/postop operative wounds; care and management of bowels; care and management of patients with end of life needs; familiar with set-up/re-priming syringe drivers; verification of death; care of PEGs
* Ability to organise and deliver a high standard of research based clinical care including developing and implementing policies and protocols.
* Clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.

£50,129 to £57,365 a year, per annum pro rota
