Design Lead – Lighting & Energy Solutions
WSP is looking for a Design Lead to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team, ideally based in our Birmingham offices, though we welcome candidates from any UK office. This role supports our Strategic Road Network lighting team within the Highway sector, working on significant projects in North‑West, Eastern and Southern National Highway regions as part of the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF).
Typical Week / Responsibilities
* Assist with document control for all documents received and issued from the SDF Team leaders.
* Perform day‑to‑day project administration tasks.
* Provide stakeholder support.
* Support the Project Manager with procurement activities, including purchase orders and invoicing.
* Manage project charge codes, monitor programming and manage delivery programmes.
* Assist the Project Management team with project reviews and outcome reporting.
* Design lighting using Lighting Reality Design or similar software.
* Produce MCHW specification and supporting documentation.
* Participate in asset clash detection and resolve clashes at BIM level 2 (desirable).
* Develop risk assessments and design decision documentation.
* Attend site visits to check road lighting, lit signage assets and feeder pillars for safe installation (G39 and ECS card desirable).
What We Will Be Looking For
* Achieved minimum of EngTech, working towards registration with the Engineering Council (EngTech, IEng or CEng).
* Proficient in Lighting Reality Design Software and AutoCAD.
* Good understanding of electrical design and operations.
* Demonstrated competency and experience within a lighting design project.
* Consideration of environmental factors in Highway lighting design (desirable).
* Ability to support the development of junior design team members.
* Understanding of the design and implementation of central management system technology.
* Can work independently and as part of a team.
* Can prioritise and be flexible.
* Experience working within the Highway sector.
* Fluent spoken and written English and strong IT skills.
