Civil & Structural CAD Designer 2D/3D Modelling
Location: Manchester, M2
Role Overview:
This role sits within a collaborative engineering team and focuses on the creation of 3D models, technical drawings, and design documentation for civil and structural elements of gas infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to delivering high-quality CAD outputs, often working independently or taking the lead on specific project components. You will also contribute to enhancing internal design processes and offer guidance to junior staff members, supporting the development of a high-performing CAD function.
Key Duties:
* Develop accurate and detailed 2D and 3D design packages for both permanent and temporary civil and structural works.
* Utilise a range of design software tools, including AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD, Revit and/or Civil 3D.
* Operate within a digital project environment (e.g., ProjectWise), ensuring proper management of design files and revisions.
* Deliver drawings and models in line with project budgets and timelines, ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulations.
* Interpret design requirements and coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated solution.
* Support project teams by participating in design reviews, site assessments, and client meetings when required.
* Mentor junior designers and contribute to team-wide improvements in design practices and efficiency.
Candidate Profile:
Must-Have:
* Strong experience in preparing civil and structural designs, including piping layouts, equipment foundations, drainage, ducting systems, and reinforced concrete or steel structures.
* Proven ability to manage your own workload and deliver quality work with minimal oversight.
* Solid understanding of UK construction standards and design protocols.
* Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working.
Nice to Have:
* Experience working across various industries such as water treatment, energy, transportation, nuclear, or renewable sectors.
Qualifications:
Required:
* A relevant technical qualification (City & Guilds, HNC, or HND).
Preferred:
* Membership or working towards professional registration (EngTech, IEng) with a recognised engineering body such as ICE.
