HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough is setting a new standard for new build prisons of the future, using forward-thinking design and technology. The Prison is the UK’s first purpose-built, new resettlement Prison. After opening in 2022 it is a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future and has become an integral part of the local community. G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe. We are looking for an experienced Prison Offender Manager (POM) to join our team. You may already have experience within a custodial environment and are seeking a new challenge or ready for the next step in your career. The job holder will lead the management and assessment of selected low to medium risk prisoners and prepare, implement, review and evaluate their sentence plans with them. The job holder will build effective, appropriate and supportive relationships with prisoners, with the aim of reducing re- offending. The job holder will act in a supportive role only to probation officers (internal and external) in the case management of high risk prisoners. Key Responsibilities Work with a caseload of between 75 and 100 prisoners that will be required to: Supervise, Manage, Signpost and advise prisoners decently, safely and securely while carrying out all activities. Understand, apply and conform to national and local policies. Establish, develop and maintain professional relationships with prisoners and staff. Maintain and update systems in line with local agreements. Prepare relevant documentation to managers for verification/quality checking purposes. Attend and contribute to relevant meetings as required. To assess and manage the risk posed by offenders to protect victims of crime and the general public by: Providing information and advice to other criminal justice agencies and partner organisations. Supervise offenders during custodial sentences. Contribute to the management of risk. Work with other agencies and groups to prevent reoffending and meet the needs of victims and offenders. Coordinate the activities within the sentence plan through liaison with prisoners and other departments and agencies, including gathering and exchanging information and understanding/investigating conflicting opinions on prisoner progress. Contribute and attend Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) Boards and work with all relevant external agencies to protect the public when releasing prisoners under MAPPA. Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions. Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role. To work collaboratively with colleagues and maintain effective team relationships, in particular with Key Workers. Understanding of the fundamentals of Risk Management Experience in working with and managing Prisoners. Strong communication skills. Attention to detail Ability to manage tight deadlines and competing priorities. You will have a consultative and can do attitude, supporting and coaching prisoners to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures are met. You must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral, alongside good negotiation and influencing skills with an academic qualification in criminology being desirable.
