The Role
The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial operations and supporting strategic financial management. You will ensure that robust systems, accurate reporting, and effective controls are in place to help us deliver on our mission with transparency and impact. You will work closely with an outsourced provider to ensure smooth financial operations across the Trust.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance professional who wants to apply their skills in a purpose-driven organisation, working flexibly on a part-time basis.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
* Lead month-end close procedures, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
* Prepare insightful financial reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees.
* Coordinate the annual budget-setting process and maintain rolling forecasts.
* Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, including Charity Commission, Companies House, and HMRC requirements.
* Oversee annual audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
* Maintain financial systems, policies, and procedures, ensuring they reflect best practice.
* Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds in line with donor requirements.
* Support programme leads with financial guidance and training to enable sound decision-making.
* Act as a key financial contact for funders, suppliers, and auditors.
About You
We are looking for someone who brings strong financial expertise, a collaborative approach, and a genuine interest in supporting the mission of The Sports Trust.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Fully or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent).
* At least 5 years' experience in finance roles, including budget management and reporting.
* Strong understanding of charity finance regulations, SORP, and restricted/unrestricted funding.
* Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and Excel.
* Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
* High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Desirable:
* Experience in the charity, non-profit, or social enterprise sector.
* Knowledge of grant management and reporting requirements.
