Job Summary
Ref: 349-MCH-7612230-RL4 – the Medical Director's Leadership Fellow (MDLF) is a unique 80% non‑clinical role for a junior doctor (ST3+ or equivalent) at RMCH/MCS. The Fellow will work alongside the senior leadership team, observing and supporting the Medical Director, and will lead initiatives for junior and locally employed doctors.
Responsibilities
* Lead engagement with junior doctors and locally employed doctors across RMCH/MCS and associated improvement programmes.
* Support the Medical Director and Medical Director Team in improving the junior doctor and locally employed doctor experience.
* Act as a voice for junior doctors and locally employed doctors within organisational decision‑making.
* Attend and support the Junior Doctor Forum.
* Ensure an effective induction process for all junior doctors and locally employed doctors starting within RMCH/MCS.
* Implement action plans following GMC Trainee Survey, Deanery Visits, Undergraduate Student feedback and other trainee/trainer feedback mechanisms.
* Work with and lead on Medical Director Team initiatives, programmes of work and developments that include or impact on junior doctors and locally employed doctors.
* Any other appropriate duties assigned by the Medical Director.
Qualifications – Essential
* Qualified Doctor or Dentist with full registration of the General Medical Council / General Dental Council or equivalent.
* ST3+ or equivalent.
* At least 6 months NHS experience.
* Experience in paediatrics or paediatric subspecialty (e.g. paeds anaesthesia, PED, Paeds surgery, CAMHS).
Skills, Knowledge and Experience – Desirable
* Experience leading change initiatives.
* Ability to deliver on clinical effectiveness and patient safety.
* Experience implementing change across departments, organisations, or systems.
* Experience in regional or national leadership initiatives.
* Experience managing teams and projects.
* Knowledge of NHS policy related to medical staff, patient experience, quality, safety and the regulatory framework.
* Advocacy for junior doctors.
