Overview
Counselling Psychologist/CBT/Psychological Therapist/Psychotherapist role in an outpatient team. Band 7 psychologist/therapist with lead role as joint FREED Champion coordinating the FREED early intervention pathway (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders). Responsibilities
* Provide specialist psychological interventions for eating disorders in adults, including specialist assessment, treatment planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
* Contribute to enabling staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by creating a psychologically safe environment.
* Provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate.
* Promote service evaluation, audit and research.
* Take a lead role as co-FREED Champion in the team, coordinating the FREED early intervention pathway.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and service policies, with responsibility for own treatment and discharge decisions with supervision support.
* Provide staff support within the area, including Critical Incident Staff Support and Reflect-Support-Resolve; participate as a recipient in staff support when appropriate.

The Eating Disorder Unit (EDU) is internationally renowned for evidence-based care for adults with eating disorders. We are the developers of MANTRA, FREED, and PEACE (Pathway for Eating Disorders and Autism). We offer opportunities for ongoing training and collaboration with colleagues across South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences at King’s College London. Job Description / Responsibilities
* To provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for clients (individuals, couples, families and networks) in the eating disorders outpatients service.
* To provide culturally appropriate psychological or psychotherapeutic interventions with carers or families when required.
* To assess and monitor risk and draw up risk management plans.
* To provide reports with relevant formulations and interventions to inform referrers, service users and families where appropriate.
* To select and deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions for eating disorders and comorbidities, monitoring outcomes and adapting as necessary based on complex factors shaping the individual or group.
* To promote psychological support for carers of referred clients.
* To jointly manage the FREED early intervention pathway as co-FREED Champion.
Person Specification
Essential qualifications and experience
* Recognition of qualification in core mental health professions or equivalent NHS experience.
* For Psychologists: HCPC-accepted qualification in Applied Psychology (Clinical or Counselling psychology).
* For CBT Therapists and Psychotherapists: HCPC/UKCP/ACAT/BACP/BABCP-accepted qualification for professional registration.
Experience
* Experience receiving clinical supervision across a range of client needs.
* Experience addressing diversity within local communities and working with risk and safety concerns.
Desirable
* Experience of working with individuals with eating disorders.
* Experience in audit/research projects.
Knowledge
* Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and evidence base for relevant treatments.
* Knowledge of legislation relating to client groups and mental health issues, protection, and equality.
Skills
* Communicate complex information sensitively with clients, carers and colleagues, overcoming barriers including cultural differences and challenging circumstances.
* Plan and schedule assessments and interventions for individuals and groups; provide consultation to multi-disciplinary teams.
* Administer and interpret complex assessments drawn from multiple sources.
Abilities
* Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team; contribute to team functioning and roles.
* Develop and use complex multimedia materials for presentations.
* Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations with victims of abuse, trauma, self-harm or aggression.
* Maintain concentration and adapt to interruptions during observations and interventions.
