The Environment Agency invites candidates to join a team that supports commercial governance of contracts with key consultancies and contractors, maximising value for money and enabling the delivery of resilient communities.
This role supports the Commercial Assurance and Framework Management team, providing country‑wide governance support to Integrated Delivery Management teams. Responsibilities include managing commercial and contract relationships, establishing and overseeing pathfinder programmes, embedding best practice, and developing long‑term partnership arrangements. You will also collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, enhance commercial risk management, and be part of an active incident response capability.
Responsibilities
 * Support commercial governance of contracts with external consultancies and contractors.
 * Set up and manage pathfinder programmes that embed best practice and develop collaborative partnerships.
 * Champion effective commercial assurance, delivering value for money across national programmes.
 * Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
 * Assist with contract interpretation, risk assessment and decision making.
 * Participate in incident response duties when required.
Qualifications
 * A‑Level qualifications or equivalent (Level 3).
 * Excellent communication and influencing skills.
 * Experience in stakeholder management.
 * Strong data and document management abilities.
 * Commercial acumen – ability to analyse business situations, take proportionate risks and deliver advantageous solutions.
 * Administrative skills, including minute‑taking and report drafting.
 * Willingness to undertake professional development (e.g., NEC training, CIPS).
 * Interest in infrastructure, construction or environmental programmes.
Desired Professional Background
 * Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
 * Progress towards status with a recognised professional body (ICE, CIWEM, APM, CIPS, RICS).
 * Formal training in contract management (e.g., NEC, Contract Management Capability Programme).
