We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional individual to join the Kent and South London area Installations team. You will be joining a team where the environment is the priority and the work is varied, challenging and interesting. Salary and grading will be based on experience and skills. A training and development programme is available for the successful applicant.
You will be responsible for regulating sites with Installations permits under the Environmental Permitting Regulations. This includes Landfill/Deposit for Recovery, Biowaste Treatment and Hazardous and Non‑Hazardous Waste treatment sites. The team also regulates other sectors such as Paper and Pulp, Combustion, Incineration, Chemicals, Food and Drink, and Oil & Gas.
Responsibilities
* Ensure permit compliance by conducting site inspections and audits to assess operator ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resources.
* Analyse and interpret environmental monitoring and performance data.
* Undertake appropriate enforcement and remediation actions for a range of non‑compliances and environmental incidents at permitted sites.
* Use influencing and negotiating skills to ensure best practice.
* Work with other regulatory bodies, authorities and stakeholders.
* Deal with people at all levels within industry, local communities and other interested groups.
* Take part in the assessment of and response to environmental incidents.
Requirements
* Significant regulatory or equivalent industrial experience across a range of industries.
* Excellent influencing skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.
* Experience delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
* Teamwork skills to support colleagues reaching common goals.
* Ability to manage multiple demands on time in a prioritised manner to achieve outcomes and deliver against plans.
* A proven track record of taking initiative and using a continuous improvement approach.
* Honours degree (or equivalent), ideally in a science or engineering discipline.
