The Assistant Team Manager will provide professional leadership, guidance and support to social work staff, help coordinate workloads and service priorities, and contribute to the delivery of safe, timely and person-centred mental health services. About the role Newport City Council is seeking an experienced and qualified Social Worker to join the Community Mental Health Team on a fixed-term basis, or secondment, until March 2028. This is a key leadership role within the Community Mental Health Team, supporting the Team Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the service. The post will include responsibility for providing supervision, advice and decision-making support, promoting good practice, and working closely with health colleagues to ensure coordinated responses for people with complex mental health needs. The Assistant Team Manager will also play an important role in service development, quality assurance, and maintaining statutory responsibilities within an integrated community setting. About the CMHT Newport's Community Mental Health Team is an integrated, multidisciplinary service working closely with health colleagues to support adults with complex mental health needs. The team provides assessment, care planning, intervention and ongoing support, helping individuals to manage risk, promote recovery, make strengths-based decisions and remain as independent as possible within their community. The team is recognised for its positive culture, collaborative approach and shared commitment to delivering high-quality mental health services.
