About this role Love solving real frontend problems at scale? Our design system team is the backbone of how we build consistent, accessible experiences across web and mobile. In this Frontend Web Engineer: Design System role you will work developing and maintaining UI components for the web, partner closely with designers, and support teams across the company in delivering great UI. We are looking for someone who cares about delivering good frontend experiences and quality products. As part of a service team, you'll empower other engineers and teams by providing support and guidance on our design system and its contribution process. *Please note that this position is located in Bristol OR Berlin (3 days a week from our office and 2 days working from home) These are some of the key components to the position: Collaborate across functions: Work closely with designers, mobile engineers, and other web developers to build, maintain, and evolve our design system. Build and maintain robust UI components for web: Develop high-quality, accessible, and performant web components that serve as the building blocks for our applications. Champion best practices: Advocate for and implement best practices in frontend engineering, ensuring code quality, consistency, and reusability. Ensure accessibility (a11y): Proactively integrate accessibility standards into all components and documentation, making sure our products are usable by everyone. Empower through documentation: Create clear, comprehensive, and engaging documentation that enables engineers across the organization to effectively use our design system. We believe documentation is key to adoption and success! Provide support and guidance: Act as a resource for other engineers, helping them understand and implement our design system effectively. Here is a quick overview of our tech stack: We build Web Components with Lit, Sass and TypeScript, and also maintain a Legacy React Component library. We use Storybook for developing, documenting and testing our web components. Our CI uses Github Actions with some small infrastructure including our documentation living in AWS. As our components integrate with React/Next.js and Vue/Nuxt, any experience of these frameworks is a plus. You can find our design system documentation in. Our Web library is open source and can be found at. Additionally, our technical documentation can be found at. What will you bring to the team? A background as a frontend web developer, with expertise in core technologies like JavaScript, TypeScript and modern frameworks. Practical experience building and maintaining component libraries. A solid understanding of CSS and HTML. Familiarity of the principles of design systems, including the usage and value of design tokens. Practical experience with various testing methodologies like unit, accessibility, browser, and visual regression testing. You have a keen eye for detail, with knowledge of web accessibility (a11y) and performance best practices. Some very nice to haves are: Experience with contribution models for open-source projects or internal libraries. Prior experience in building and maintaining Web Components and Lit. Experience creating accessible products and testing for accessibility.
