Team/Role Overview
The Junior Legal Negotiator is a non-attorney role, responsible for supporting the Legal Function in providing Transaction Management advice and support to Citi’s businesses and functions. The Transaction Management area is responsible for supporting the negotiation, transaction processes, documentation, and execution of business transactions, including establishing trading or banking relationships, entering transactions or services with Citi, and documenting trading in securities between parties.
This role requires a pragmatic, proactive professional with a thorough understanding of the business, its products, and services. It also requires a solid grasp of contractual terms and legal implications of Citi’s documentation. Excellent communication skills are essential as this role guides Citi businesses in contractual discussions, including risk considerations related to modifications or amendments.
You will support the expanding commodities legal team within Citi Belfast Markets Legal Contract Management. This role offers exposure to master agreements for various commodities transactions and amendments, providing challenging work, learning opportunities, and long-term growth potential.
What you’ll do
* Facilitate review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts and documentation for Citi’s relevant business areas.
* Conduct negotiations with senior peers efficiently and thoroughly.
* Engage with institutional clients, counsel, and internal teams during negotiations.
* Respond to queries regarding contractual documentation, escalating to attorneys as needed.
* Maintain detailed records of negotiations and liaise with unresponsive customers.
* Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes, ensuring compliance.
* Advise on risks and documentation requirements based on product and jurisdiction.
* Assess risks associated with business decisions, prioritizing Citi’s reputation and assets.
What we’ll need from you
* Relevant industry experience, ideally in in-house legal roles within financial services.
* Experience in contractual negotiations in large institutional settings.
* Proven ability to complete complex documentation under tight deadlines.
* Strong organizational skills for managing complex documentation.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with senior management.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
* Deep knowledge of legal customs, practices, and the financial industry.
* Bachelor’s or higher legal degree; Master’s preferred.
