Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Derby College Group is seeking a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide dedicated support for classes, including GCSE resits, Functional Skills and cross-college curriculum, at our Roundhouse campus.

The Opportunity

As a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), you’ll play a key role in supporting teaching for students on different courses. Working closely with teaching staff, you’ll provide in-class support, deliver small group activities, and help students develop confidence in numeracy. You’ll also assist with resource preparation and targeted interventions to ensure learners stay engaged and achieve their qualifications.

There are 2 positions:

1. Full time Maths HLTA within our Routes provision (37 hours per week)
2. Part time HLTA (15 hours per week) across college

About You

You’ll have experience supporting post-16 learners and either a good understanding of the GCSE and Functional Skills Maths curriculum, or understanding of varied curriculum areas. A team player with strategies to engage students who may be disengaged, you’ll bring strong communication skills and a proactive approach. A Level 2 qualification in Maths and English is essential, along with a Level 3 qualification. Ideally, you’ll hold HLTA status.
