Clinical Nurse Specialist (RMN) - CYP Eating Disorders Day Programme

We have an exciting opportunity for an RMN to join our Eating Disorders Day Programme Service for children and young people based in London's Kensington & Chelsea. The Day Programme is a small service open Monday–Friday that provides an enhanced level of care in the community following specialist inpatient treatment for young people with eating disorders and complex co‑mortality. The post holder will be part of a wider multidisciplinary team to establish this new service and will be responsible for day‑to‑day delivery of nursing input to children and young people, support to their families, and advice and consultation on their care.


Responsibilities

* liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team to facilitate the smooth transition for patients to the service
* take a lead role in the nursing assessment of all referrals
* collaborate closely on clinical and managerial matters with service leads for the day programme
* provide keywork to the young person and family using the approach of Family‑Based Treatment
* act as care co‑ordinator for day patients
* ensure that all day patients have a nursing care plan that is regularly reviewed in collaboration with the patient
* act as group facilitator/co‑facilitator as required, including supervision of meals in dining room, as well as inpatient and day patient groups
* take a lead nursing role in day patient and team review meetings
* ensure that planning of care occurs within the framework of CPA, and that relevant local and national guidelines are adhered to
* liaise and work with the families and/or carers of patients, providing individualised family work in conjunction with the family therapist
* develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with service users and their families/carers
* provide supervision and conduct appraisals
* undertake risk assessment and risk management of individual patients and their families


Essential Qualifications

* Registered RMN
* Current NMC registration
* Mentorship training


Desirable Qualifications

* Evidence of regular updating in nursing clinical practice since qualification
* Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) training
* Degree or post‑graduate qualification relevant to the post


Previous Experience

* Significant post‑registration experience
* Skills and experience transferable to Eating Disorders
* Experience of working in mental health in‑patient or community settings, including assessment and risk assessment
* Experience of completing a nursing assessment and formulating a safe care plan
* Experience of managing a caseload of patients and care coordination within a ward or community setting
* Experience of working in a multi‑disciplinary team
* Experience of supervising staff or working with student nurses
* Experience of managing incidents and complaints


Desirable Experience

* Experience of working in CAMHS or ED ward or community setting
* Experience of completing a specialist assessment for patients with eating disorders
* Experience of developing a specialist area on behalf of the Service or local team
* Experience of working in a day programme
* Use of therapeutic interventions within mental health settings (e.g., 1:1, counselling, family therapy and group work)


Skills and Knowledge

* Able to treat service users with respect and dignity, adopting a culturally sensitive approach
* Excellent risk assessment and general mental health assessment skills
* Experience and skills in nursing assessment and treatment planning
* Trained or willing to be trained in venepuncture and physical care skills
* Ability to foster good working relationships across a multi‑disciplinary team
* Knowledge of boundary issues in mental health
* Ability to work independently and manage a stressful workload effectively
* Ability to utilise reflective practice in supervision
* Ability to liaise effectively with other agencies, both statutory and non‑statutory
* Understanding of family/carer issues
* Excellent record‑keeping and report‑writing skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Proficient in computer skills to manage electronic patient records, Microsoft Teams and Office
* Positive attitude and ability to act on feedback
* Prioritisation of workload and good time‑management


Desirable Skills and Knowledge

* Knowledge and skills in Eating Disorders treatment
