Job summary
We are seeking two Legislative Drafters to join the Attorney General's Chambers to support the St Helena Government in the delivery of an extensive legislative programme, and to play a key role in improving the accessibility of our laws.
Job description
Working with the Legislative Commissioner in the Attorney General's Chambers, you will be part of a small drafting team working to ensure that the laws of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha are properly drafted, published and kept up to date. You will work closely with colleagues and clients to advise on policy development and to deliver a packed legislative programme in line with Ministerial priorities. You will be involved in every stage of the legislative process and will also help in recommending amendments to existing legislation, creation of new legislation and the repeal of obsolete legislation. Another key area of work will be supporting the systematic audit and upgrade of our legislation website to improve the accessibility of our laws.
Person specification
A UK or Commonwealth qualified lawyer with experience of legislative drafting, you have demonstrable experience in statutory interpretation and of drafting bills, subsidiary legislation and other statutory notices, plus a background in legislative research and policy development. We expect unequivocal compliance with Nolan Principles and with standards and rules of conduct required by your regulator. Maintaining your eligibility to hold a practising certificate (or equivalent), you will undertake CPD obligations, keeping records that demonstrate your continuing education and competence. In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.

Benefits offered include an International Supplement allowance ranging from £15,300-£21,600 depending on the status of any dependents. Pension payment @ 7.5% of salary, Freight costs of up to a standard 20ft container, 30 days annual leave per year and relocation allowances.
