The post holder will work closely with the other members of the practice development team to manage in situ skills drills and managing multi-professional training in the department. The post holder will also support practice assessors and practice supervisors and midwives undertaking post registration courses. The post holder will also work with the practice development team in the development of midwifery practice and enhance the overall quality of patient care. It is expected that the post holder will work clinically, supporting students and staff as a requirement of the role.
The Practice Development Midwife will provide evidence-based advice, and support to all maternity staff. The focus of this post is to support preceptor midwives (midwives in their first year of employment following qualification). The practice development midwife will be responsible for managing in situ skills drills and managing multi-professional training in the department, including PROMPT.
The poster holder will have substantial post-registration experience as a midwife in a range of clinical settings and experience supporting students and maternity colleagues. They will have strong clinical competence across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. The post holder will have effective communication skills for multidisciplinary working and delivering feedback. Involvement with audit and guideline development and experience or interest in quality improvement projects, whilst embedding evidence-based practice. Teaching and facilitation skills to support training, preceptorship and develop targeted education plans.
