We are a rapidly expanding plant and haulage hire business looking for a high performing Business Development Manager to drive sales, win new clients and maximise hire revenue across our fleet of plant machinery, road sweepers, tipper lorries, grab wagons and low loaders. About the Role
This is a sales driven growth role. You will be responsible for securing new clients, winning hire contracts and expanding our presence across construction, highways, utilities, waste management and local authority sectors. Alongside sales, you will oversee key operational elements such as managing operators and drivers, coordinating delivery/uplift schedules and ensuring all hire documentation is accurate and under SPOA terms & conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Growth
* Proactively identify, target and secure new clients and hire opportunities
* Build a strong pipeline of prospects and convert leads into profitable contracts
* Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to grow revenue and market share
* Conduct site visits, client meetings and presentations to promote services
* Prepare competitive quotations, negotiate rates and close deals
* Represent the business at industry events, networking opportunities and trade shows
* Monitor competitor activity and market trends to stay ahead
Operational & Client Delivery
* Manage operators and drivers across plant, sweepers, tippers, grab and low loader
* Oversee delivery and uplift schedules to ensure smooth, reliable service
* Ensure all hire documentation is completed accurately and SPOA approved.
* Work closely with operations and workshop teams to ensure equipment is ready, compliant and delivered on time
* Support seamless on boarding of new clients and mobilisation of new contracts
Compliance & Standards
* Ensure all hires meet legal, safety and industry standards
* Maintain accurate records of hire agreements, compliance checks and documentation
* Promote a strong safety culture across all operational activities
Skills & Experience Required
* Must have proven experience in a similar business development or sales role within plant hire, transport, construction services or related industries
* Strong understanding of sweepers, tippers, grabs, low loaders and plant machinery
* Experience managing drivers, operators and logistics scheduling
* A natural salesperson, confident, persuasive and commercially focused
* Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship building skills
* Highly self motivated, target driven and results oriented
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy pipeline
* IT literate with experience in management systems.
* Full UK driving licence
