Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant – Permanent Opportunity

Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire (WF1)

Salary: Highly Competitive

Hours: 37 hours per week | Term Time Only

Contract Type: Permanent

Start Date: As soon as possible

Are you passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs and helping them thrive? Reed Education is proud to be recruiting for dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEND provision in Wakefield (WF1), rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in October 2023.


About the School

This welcoming and inclusive school caters to students aged 11–19 with a range of complex needs, including autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties, speech and language challenges, and behaviours that may challenge. With small class sizes (up to 8 pupils), strong 1:1 support, and a committed therapy team, the school offers a nurturing environment where every student is supported to reach their full potential.


The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll be an essential part of the team, working closely with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning experiences. Your support will help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide tailored support with learning, care, and behaviour
* Build trusting relationships to foster a safe and engaging classroom environment
* Encourage independence and personal growth
* Assist in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum
* Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the school


What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for individuals who are:

* Experienced in supporting children or young people with SEN (paid or voluntary)
* Compassionate, adaptable, and committed to student wellbeing
* Hold GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C/Level 2 or equivalent)
* Ideally qualified at Level 2 or above in Support Work for Teaching and Learning
* Knowledgeable about safeguarding and child protection
* Familiar with SEN/SEMH/ASD needs
