Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join Chalkhill, our 12-bed General Adolescent Unit based at Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. This post offers real leadership visibility and the opportunity to influence the next phase of inpatient CAMHS development in Sussex.
About the role
Chalkhill is entering an important period of strengthening, innovation and service redesign. You will join an experienced multidisciplinary team delivering specialist care to young people aged 13–18 with complex mental health needs.
The role offers meaningful influence across inpatient pathways, working closely with community CAMHS and COAST Acute services to ensure safe, integrated care. We are open to bespoke job planning and flexible arrangements, including exploring a shared post model across Chalkhill and COAST where this supports continuity and service quality.
Recruitment & Retention Package
This post attracts a £45,000 Recruitment & Retention Package structured over three years:
Payment is pro rata for part-time employees. Relocation support may be available subject to policy.
Key responsibilities
* Clinical leadership of a 12-bed Tier 4 General Adolescent Unit
* Specialist assessment, formulation and treatment planning
* Risk management and Responsible Clinician duties
* Supervision of junior doctors and trainees
* Close partnership working with families and external agencies
* Contribution to audit, teaching, research and quality improvement
* Participation in the CAMHS Consultant on-call rota (currently 1:9 with compensatory rest)
You will work within a supportive leadership structure with strong operational and clinical management backing.

About you
You will be GMC-registered with Specialist Registration in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or within six months) and Approved Clinician status or willingness to obtain. You will bring strong clinical expertise, collaborative leadership and a commitment to high‑quality inpatient CAMHS care.

Hours: Full time – 10 PAs + on-call
