Healthcare Central London Ltd (HCL) is a federation of 30 General Practices and 4 Primary Care Networks (PCNS) in Westminster caring for more than 275,000 registered patients. We provide Community and Primary Care services to our local residents, in addition to a wide range of staffing, management and administrative support to our member practices. By working closely with our PCNs and other key partners, including the Local Authority and community Organisations, we help people to stay well and live healthier lives for longer.
We operate Federation-led services including Respiratory and Spirometry hubs; Community Cardiology; Community Dermatology; Community Diabetes service; Access E-hub and Enhanced Access and we support PCNs with managing their NWL single offer contract of services and the National Network DES contract, including ARRS roles.

Role Summary
This role is a vital part of the HCL nursing team, primarily supporting the clinical research team across a range of services. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering research clinics under the guidance of the Lead GP for Clinical Research and/or the Head of Research/ Senior Research Nurse. They will actively contribute to the implementation and support of clinical trials.
Based at the South Westminster Centre in Pimlico, the role also includes acting as the on-call clinician for all on-site services. This may involve responding to situations where a patient becomes unwell or where clinical support is needed. In addition, the post holder will oversee clinical stock for services operating on-site, working in collaboration with the administrative team to ensure supplies are maintained.
The post holder will be based at South Westminster Centre for Health and will be expected to work on-site.
Requirements
Role Requirements and Responsibilities
Operational
•Initially work with supervision with the aim of working autonomously to assist in the management of a caseload of clinical trial patients, whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure high quality service delivery.
•Assist in identifying suitable patients for entry into clinical trials by undertaking eligibility checks.
•Provide ongoing information, education and support to patients (and their significant others) regarding clinical trials and specific trial treatments.
•Ensure the safe administration of treatments and drugs that are given within the context of a clinical trial.
•Engage in activities that raise the research profile of Healthcare Central London (HCL).
•Mentorship to data managers and clinical trial practitioners.
Administration
•Support the Research Manager with completion of commercial and non-commercial research feasibility questionnaires.
•Support the Senior Research Facilitator with SystmOne search building and checking.
•Be accountable for the documentation of trial data according to ICH GCP guidelines.
Regulatory compliance
•Ensure medicines are stored, supplied and disposed of in line with legislative and best practice guidance and recommendations.
•Maintain accurate documentation of patient events in nursing/medical notes and Case Report Forms.
•Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of treatment options, treatment side effects and disease processes to support patients in making an informed treatment choice.
•Ensure that trial specific investigations are undertaken as required by the trial protocol and obtain results in order to establish eligibility and safety to enter the trial.
•Reporting any adverse events in a timely manner on the relevant platforms.
•Identify and act on any serious breaches of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
•Keep up-to-date with latest NIHR developments and training relating to clinical trials.
Site Audits
•Work with HCL Clinical Pharmacy Team in the oversight of any stored medicines
•Report any incidents via HCL Incident Reporting systems to ensure organisational oversight.
•Actively participate in clinical audit and service improvement activity to improve patient care and patient outcomes (privacy, dignity, and duty of candour).
•Oversee site audits of:
a.Fridge temperatures- ensuring these are recorded x2 daily am and pm.
b.Vaccinations storage – in date vaccines and stock control in place.
c.Drug cabinets- in date and maintained stock control.
d.Emergency kits- in date and maintained stock control.
e.Oxygen & masks- ensure in date and maintained.
f.IPC completed across all services – including hand washing.
g.Defib weekly checks completed.
h.Sharp bins checks and maintenance.
Other duties
•Represent the HCL research team at local, national and international meetings as and when required.
•Ensure active engagement with Head of Pharmacy and Director of Research/Head of Business Intelligence to ensure collaborative working across the services.
•As and when required, support the HCL Pharmacy team with delivering training sessions.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
· Full NMC level one registered nurse.
· Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
· Post qualifying clinical experience in general practice (at least 2 years).
· Basic Life Support training (up to date).
· Defib training (up to date).
· Copes well with responsibility, pressure and emotional circumstances.
· Knowledge and implementation of ICH Good Clinical Practice.
· Knowledge of SystmOne and the Microsoft Office suite.
· Understanding of clinical research methods.
· Demonstrates adaptability and a flexible approach, with a willingness to work agilely in response to changing business and research needs.
· Time management with ability to work to tight schedules.
· Team player but also able to work autonomously.
· Stakeholder management.
· Responsible for providing high-quality professional expertise and ensuring effective service delivery.
· Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of post.
Desirable criteria
· Adult, Child and Travel vaccination training and experience of delivery.
· Independent Prescriber or Experience of working against a PGD.
· Evidence of Continuing Professional Development/ post graduate study.
· Spirometry ARTP training or a willingness to undertake.
· ENB 998/997/Mentorship qualification or recognised teaching qualification.
Experience of implementing change in a clinical setting.
