Locum Consultant in Neuro-Critical Care
We are looking for a Locum Consultant with an interest in Neuro-Critical Care to join The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract.
* Contract length: 12‑month fixed‑term
* Full time or part time (10 sessions per week)
* On‑call frequency 1:9 with full staffing
Responsibilities
* Provide adult neuro‑critical care and neurosurgical emergency cover on two separate on‑call rotas.
* Deliver neuro‑critical care sessions as per agreement with the Clinical Director.
* Take part in teaching, counselling, audit, research and management activities within the hospital.
* Develop and promote relevant special interests.
* Execute 10.0 programmed activities (PAs) and negotiate additional PAs for direct clinical care in mutual agreement with the Trust.
Qualifications
* MB ChB (or equivalent)
* FRCA (or equivalent)
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
* Eligible for inclusion in the specialist register in Anaesthesia
* Fellowship of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) or equivalent
* ALS Certified
Training & Clinical Experience
* Minimum 7 years (or full time equivalent) appropriate experience in Anaesthesia & Critical Care
* Advanced competencies in Neuro‑anaesthesia, Neuroradiology & Neuro Intensive Care
* CCT in Anaesthesia (or equivalent) or within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of interview
* CCT in ICM
* Higher training in ENT Maxillo‑facial & Dental anaesthesia
* Higher training in Trauma & Stabilisation
Core Skills
* Manually dexterous and able to work without supervision, making appropriate clinical decisions.
* Use evidence‑based techniques in clinical practice.
* Strong communication capabilities; motivation to develop new services.
* Ability to organise own time and work under pressure.
IT Proficiency
* Proficient in Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
* Proficient in patient information systems.
Personal Attributes
* Organise own time efficiently.
* Handle stressful situations and responsibilities competently.
* Demonstrated good communication skills.
* Motivated to develop new services.
Teaching & Audit
* Organisation of training days / sessions.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development.
* Completed and presented audit projects with evidence of change in practice.
* GMC recognition as a clinical Supervisor.
* Evidence of commitment to postgraduate education (e.g., Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education).
* Presentation skills for diverse audiences.
Relevant Experience
* Understanding of Clinical Governance principles and resource constraints.
* Experience with NHS committee work.
* Management course completed.
* Knowledge of NHS funding and finance issues and recent NHS development plans.
