This is a trainee role within the NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression service, covering Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton. The post-holder will be embedded within the TT service providing high‑volume low‑intensity interventions while undertaking a training programme. The training equips you to provide low‑intensity CBT‑based self‑management interventions to clients at Step 2 with mild to moderate anxiety and depression across various media.
The PG Cert is delivered by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust in conjunction with the University of Birmingham. Training places are offered within Walsall, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Dudley.
This will be delivered 1‑to‑1 or group basis via telephone, video or face‑to‑face. The role is locality‑based; travel between sites and virtual appointments across the Black Country may be required. Working hours will be flexible to meet service needs and course requirements.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive assessments and treatments for clients presenting with common mental health problems using evidence‑based psychological principles within primary care services.
* Assess clients’ suitability for NHS Talking Therapies treatment modalities and decide on referrals into the service, signposting to other relevant services or back to the referral agent as necessary.
* Deliver low‑intensity psychological treatments at Step 2 of the stepped‑care model, supporting patients with self‑management of common mental health difficulties primarily through guided self‑help or online CBT resources.
* Conduct risk assessments with clients and take appropriate action when necessary.
* Work closely with supervisors to ensure appropriate stepping up and stepping down arrangements for client treatments in line with the stepped‑care approach.
* Adhere to agreed clinical activity targets for the number of client contacts and sessions, ensuring treatment delivery remains accessible and waiting times are minimized.
* Maintain clinical records and reports in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and professional standards.
* Attend the university course and regular supervision sessions as required by the training programme.
Qualifications
* A degree or evidence of successful study at Regulated Qualifications Framework Level 6 (e.g. PGCert, PGDip, PGCE) – for postgraduate programme.
Skills
* Ability to manage high‑volume workloads.
* Minimum 12 months mental health experience.
* Organisational and time‑management skills.
* Knowledge and skills in conducting assessments with clients.
* Knowledge and skills in referring or signposting clients to other services.
* Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively.
