Multiple opportunities available for Bricklayers required to join our site delivery team in the Engineering business unit dedicated civils projects and maintenance of Historic Rail Estates. Working in teams to deliver reactive and planned maintenance schemes and remits, the work will be varied / general civils. Excellent prospects to join and develop within an established and growing business.
Business Unit
A busy and fast paced business unit involved in a range of civil engineering works on behalf of various clients delivering engineering maintenance and infrastructure on a portfolio of civil engineering projects at power stations and on the railway.
The Role
As a Bricklayer you will ensure the completion of designated tasks on site under the supervision of the Site Foreman, ensuring the works are completed without harm to people, the environment and targeting zero defects. Day to day duties and responsibilities will typically include but not be limited to:
* Ensure bricklaying work meets required health and safety standards.
* Read the engineers or architects’ plan.
* Responsible for building or repairing walls in accordance with construction plans.
* Responsible for constructing brickwork by laying bricks using the correct mortar mixture.
* Measure the work area.
* Set out the first rows of bricks (courses) and the damp course.
* Mix mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer.
* Lay the bricks on top of each other and apply the mortar with a trowel.
* Shape and trim bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools.
* Interface with other operatives / trades to prevent clashes.
* Check that courses are straight and level using water or laser spirit levels and plumb lines.
* Other tasks as may from time to time be deemed necessary and are authorised by line managers.
Requirements
To excel in this position, you will have previous railway experience as a Bricklayer.
* PTS (not essential)
* Experience in the rail industry
* City & Guilds / Time served Bricklayer
* CSCS
