Research technician in molecular parasitology (ftc)

Nottingham (Nottinghamshire)
Economicsnetwork
Research technician
Posted: 18 August
Offer description

Applications are invited for a full-time research assistant position in the laboratory of Catarina Gadelha, to join a programme of research on key aspects of African trypanosome biology. For this extracellular parasite, the cell surface is the primary point of interaction between the organism and the environment – that being the human host or the fly vector. Successful infection and transmission rely on the molecular interactions that take place at this interface. The post holder will provide research support to the group, being involved in a programme of work funded by the BBSRC to understand and disrupt trypanosome survival in vivo. The post will support exciting projects using host infections, quantitative ‘omics, molecular cell biology and bioinformatic approaches.

This is a full time post (36.25 hours), available from 1st September on a fixed term for 12 months in the first instance.

Qualifications, experience and competencies

Candidates should hold a BSc in Biological Sciences or related subject area (or be near to completion of such). Successful candidates will have previous experience in molecular cell biology and demonstrable skills in data analysis. Previous experience in growth, genetic manipulation and cell biology of trypanosomes (or transferable experience from other systems) is desirable but not essential.

Application

Applicants should include a cover letter briefly describing their research skills to date and current research interests, together with an up-to-date CV and two references.

Dates

Shortlisting of candidates will be completed within 1 week of close of applications, with interviews to follow within 2 weeks after that.
