Band 3 Research Medical Laboratory assistant (MLA)
Jack O'Neil Laboratory is a highly specialised laboratory using dedicatedmethodology for the diagnosis of amyloidosis and systemic autoinflammatorydiseases and is central to the NHS England funded national highly specialisedservices based at the National Amyloidosis Centre. Jack O'Neill Laboratoryconsists of a small team covering the following sections: specimen reception,molecular genetics, histopathology and proteomics.We are seeking to appoint a staff member, for a fix term, to work primarily in thespecimen reception, but also to provide essential support to scientists,technicians and researchers. This post is essential for ensuring smoothlaboratory operations, supporting compliance, improving efficiency, andultimately contributing to patient-centred research. The post holder will performindependently a range of routine tasks in the pre analytical section of thelaboratory to ensure efficient and effective processing of samples. In this roleprecision and excellent attention to detail is essential. The work performed isundertaken in accordance with appropriate training and ability to demonstratecompetence.
Main duties of the job
To provide both the technical and administrative support in data entry and processing of research samples within the Centre.
* To book in research samples on the departmental database system
* To interact with service users, both by telephone and in person as and when required.
* To support senior laboratory and other research and clinical staff within the NAC, ensuring that a high quality diagnostic results are generated in a timely and efficient manner.
* To work within defined standards, protocols, policies and procedures including Health and Safety regulations for laboratory area, to ensure safe working procedures, health and safety of other staff and visitors to the department and maintain the highest level of service at all times.
* To be responsible for personal ongoing training as required, ensuring skills /competencies are maintained.
* To assist in monitoring quality control procedure, check the trends and report to the quality manager.

* Evidence of continuing personal development related to working in health care service

* Prior experience of working with clinical data
